Well, the legend goes that there was a young man who fell in love with a very striking and lovely bar maid.
He first realized these feelings when he was watching her dance one night, by the tavern's fire light. Her beauty overcame him completely.
The young man never, however, exchanged any words with her, much less let her know of his feelings.
Some days later, she was going to the barn, and when she opened the door...
She discovered an orc who was on the run, hiding in the stables.
Having been spotted, he dashed at her, slashed her throat, and fled. She died moments later.
The young man, distraught with grief, then studied magic for many years. His friends believed he had gone into a deep depression: he was all alone, not eating or sleeping, and not talking to anyone.
The rumor started that he was researching a spell to bring her back from the dead.
