Well, I do have another way. Have you heard of the Return Home spell? Ah-ha! Yes, that might work.

So, I have to ask, have you finished what you started in coming here? What was your purpose? I stepped into the portal in order to discover what lay at the other side. In that regard, I think I have certainly experienced first-hand what this dreadful world has to offer, and am ready to rid myself of it.

But, should you ask why I built the portal in the first place, that may complicate things in terms of my quest...

Oh, how so? Why did you build it? What feels like an age ago, in the comfort of my tower, in my bed, surrounded by my books, I lay asleep.

A dream came to me which was like no other in its vivid clarity. Floating in the aether, there came a voice. It told me to build the dimensional portal, and nothing more.

Being the scholar I am, I set to work on it the very next morn, to satisfy my curiosity.

That's understandable... It was only after the portal was finished and I entered it that I discovered the origin of the voice in my dream: it was the Emperor. He lured me here deliberately, and now I stubbornly refuse his will.

Well, I don't know if all this will complicate the Return Home spell or not... there's nothing we can do but give it a try. ...Now, there's the spirit of an adventurer.
